This Diamondback mountain bike is a work of art in many ways.
For starters, every aspect of the full-suspension bike has been gone over with a fine-toothed comb to make it one of the best all-mountain models that money can buy.
It combines the best Diamondback components with a wide selection of the best aftermarket components. This leads to not only a durable all-terrain machine, but one that is stable, fast, smooth-handling, and comfortable as well.
The bike is one of the most expensive mountain bikes available from Diamondback and this shows through in its overall performance and technical specifications.
Frame Size
The Mission 2 boasts a 6061-T6 aluminum alloy frame.
The strong, sturdy frame is incredibly lightweight and boasts a low-slung profile for aggressive riders on high-level trails.
The frame is available in small, medium, large, and extra-large sizes to accommodate a wide variety of riders.
Diamondback pairs the frame with fork FOX 36 Float 160mm front and rear suspension. This type of suspension is widely considered the best for serious all-mountain riding.
Brake Type
A bike that has the ability to travel as fast as the Mission 2 needs to be able to stop on a dime.
Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes allow it to do just that. In addition to providing top-notch stopping power, the brakes are also quite responsive to varying amounts of pressure.
All it takes to slow the bike down is gentle force from a single finger on the handlebar-mounted brake levers.
Shifter
A Shimano SLX 1×11 drivetrain provides effortless shifting.
The shifting action is smooth and never jumps. Even when you’re racing downhill over choppy terrain at top speeds, the shifting action is effortless.
A wide range of gears are available so you can always find the right one.
Rims
The bike utilizes Diamondback Blanchard 28R tubeless compatible rims.
The rims are very strong to promote straight tracking and proper stability even after being bruised repeatedly by on-trail hazards.
Tires
WTB Vigilante Race tires keep the Mission 2 locked to the ground. They measure in at 27.5-inches by 2.3-inches in width.
These tires are known for their high performance in all off-road conditions including mud, wet dirt, hardpack, rock, and more. It’s easy to find replacement WTB Vigilante Race tires once the original pair wears down.

What We Like
There’s not enough good things to say about the Diamondback Mission 2 mountain bike.
For a full-suspension all-mountain model, the sheer quality of the components and overall performance is hard to beat. Needless to say, a bike this expensive is an expert-model only and isn’t generally suitable for beginners.
Here’s what we like most:
- Strong, lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum frame
- FOX 36 Float front and rear suspension
- Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes and drivetrain
- Aggressive profile for expert riders
- Hand-built by the folks at Diamondback
What We Don’t Like
It’s almost impossible to deny that the Diamondback Mission 2 mountain bike is a top performer, yet there are still some negatives we must discuss.
It’s essential to state again that this is an expert-level mountain bike. It’s meant for aggressive riders that intend to leave it all out on the trail. The bike is uncomfortable and unwieldy for beginner riders.
Here’s what we don’t like most:
- Expensive (but you get what you pay for)
- Current model has problem with sticky brakes
- Stiff suspension for most trail riding
Buying Advice
The Diamondback Mission 2 is one of the best mountain bikes available for those interested in high-speed downhill runs paired with huge drops and big jumps.
It’s created from the ground-up with expert riders in mind. The hand-built nature of the bike means that Diamondback forgoes many of its own components in favor of the best versions built by leading aftermarket brands.
The full-suspension bike features very stiff suspension that’s great for soaking up big impacts but not so great for beginner riders on more mellow trails.
Another notable feature is the bike’s durability.
You can throw this thing down and crash hard with nary a scratch. Of course, damage is possible, but in general this bike is very long-lasting, even when it’s put through the ringer. We believe this is a great option for those looking for an aggressive all-mountain full-suspension mountain bike to consider.
Conclusion
The Diamondback Mission 2 is hand-built to tackle the entire mountain, from the fastest singletrack to the roughest trails to the biggest jumps at the park.
It’s very stable in all conditions, handles well even at high speed, soaks up the biggest impacts, and can survive serious crashes without much damage.
Though beginners should stay away from this bike, advanced intermediates and experts will love the fact that they can push the boundaries of mountain biking to the next level on this model.
Simply put, the Diamondback Mission 2 is what aggressive, big impact, high-speed mountain bikers require in a bike.
