Rad Power Bikes – A Brief History

Mike Radenbaugh made the first baby steps towards establishing RadPower Bikes in 2007. At the time, he was a high school student who needed an affordable way to commute to school every day. Therefore, he decided to build his first e-bike. That’s what everybody would do, right?

In 2007, Mike Radenbaugh took the first baby steps towards building an e-bike empire: RAD Power Bikes. His aim back then was to just have a reasonable commute to high school daily. He hacked together rustic parts like a brush less motor, lead-acid batteries, and a wire encasing for which he used Tupperware.

He used all the money earned from working as a bellboy at the only hotel in the town and ordered components from eBay and Radio Shack. Soon Mike was seen building e-bikes for his neighbors and friends.

Radenbaugh, over the next few years, built bespoke e-bikes for people as a sole proprietor who’d reach out looking for something powerful and swift to replace their car journeys. As he progressed, he understood what the customers needed and what the marketplace was lacking.

Although Mike Radenbaugh had come up with the best e-bike in 2007 itself, he officially founded Rad Power Bikes in 2015 by joining forces with his childhood friend Ty Collins, who also happens to be an e-bike enthusiast.
