Manufacturer

When Vilano unveiled the Diverse 3.0 hybrid bike the headlines should have read: Vilano Strikes Gold

That is exactly what they did.

The Vilano Diverse 3.0 is a budget friendly entry level hybrid bike that cuts zero corners for the everyday rider.

Top end performance and parts in a well-designed bike offer casual riders and daily commuters a low-cost bike that performs better than most mid-range options.

Almost without compromise the Diverse 3.0 delivers in every aspect of road bike performance.

Able to handle any conditions in both weather and road, the Vilano bike is a cost-effective commuter or daily rider.

Frame Size

One way Vilano was able to keep the cost down was to limit the number of frame sizes available. They offer only two: 53 and 57 centimeters. These two frames, though, will fit most riders between 5 feet 5 inches and 6 feet 4 inches tall.

The frame itself is made of 6160 aluminum, including the fork fitting 700 cc tires without trapping mud or dirt.

Brake Type

Unlike a lot of other low-cost road bikes, the Diverse 3.0 offers Shimano disc brakes that are designed to improve stopping speed, distance and control in any wet or dry conditions.

The brakes are also integrated with the shifter for more control from the cock pit without losing the ability to maintain speed or maneuverability.

Shifter

The Shimano EF 51 3/8 Speed shifter controls 24 gears and the disc brakes with the integrated brake shifter. You won’t have to worry about any incline, decline or flats and your hands can stay in full contact with the handle bars.

Even during raining or snow conditions the shifter works flawlessly and quietly allowing you to concentrate on the road ahead.

Rims

The rims on the Vilano Diverse 3.0 are sturdy, reliable and resistant to warping. Because the disc brakes take the pressure off the walls, the Weinmann 700c rims will maintain speed and reliability through heavy braking, high speeds and even bumpy terrain.

Even though the Weinmann rims aren’t the top of the class, they will provide excellent support and help the bike maintain cargo weight limits of up to 300 pounds.

Tires

Vilano believes in quality rubber on the road and ships the Diverse 3.0 with Kendra 700c x 35c tires. The narrower width prevents the bike from being on dirt trails and downhill runs, but on the road they are quiet, efficient and responsive.

Price Range

The Vilano Diverse 3.0 has a low price point of $300. This is a very low-cost entry level price for a bike that could easily sell for more than double that. Vilano strives to offer budget friendly bikes that are stylish and competitive in the market as well as on the road. The Diverse line delivers exactly that.

What We Like

There are more things to like about this bike than it has pieces. Our favorites include:

  • Quick adjust seat and handle bars for a comfortable, upright ride.
  • Disc brakes not normally seen on low cost models.
  • Shimano shifter with integrated brake levers.
  • check-circle
The 6160 aluminum build, including fork makes the bike surprisingly lightweight.
  • check-circle
The Diverse 3.0 handles well in all weather and road conditions.

What We Don’t Like

We can’t like everything, but the list of the cons about this bike is very short.

  • Adjusting the gears can be tricky if you have never done it before.
  • The top tube is arched for aesthetics but limits the clearance when straddling.

Buying Advice

When you purchase the Vilano Diverse 3.0 you will need to inspect every component before heading out for the first time. The bike ships partially assembled and the instructions for final assembly are easily followed.

With that being said I highly suggest you take the bike to a professional for gear adjustment and cross chaining to take full advantage of the full 24 gears.

The bike pro should also look over every aspect and ensure you have the adjustments on seat and handle bars correct for your height and ride.

Vilano Diverse 3.0

Unlike most road bikes, this hybrid is designed to give you a more upright stance while riding, which may feel a bit awkward at first if you are used to drop handle bars or speed bikes.

Because this bike is a hybrid, a lot of people confuse it with a mountain bike.

You are not purchasing a mountain bike. It will be able to go off road, but not on heavy trails or downhills. This is a limit of the 700c fork and tire set, though. They just aren’t wide enough to handle trails and ruts.

Once you have it professionally tuned and tested, you won’t have to ever look back. Riding on the road, daily commutes and even casual rides in groups will be more enjoyable and exciting.

The Vilano Diverse 3.0 is built for men and women that want to enjoy the ride who aren’t out to win medals or sprint downhill. It is a perfect answer for those quick getaway rides, even if it is raining outside.

Conclusion

Vilano has provided us with high quality bikes for almost a decade now and they continue to surprise everyone with their quality and performance.

The Vilano Diverse 3.0 hybrid 24 speed is another notch in the belt.

This bike is gorgeous to look at, fun to ride and perfect for those looking to get away for a few hours. Daily commuters will get a lot of enjoyment out of the comfort of the ride as well as the stopping power and control offered by the disc brakes.

If you are looking for a wallet friendly bike that you can ride whenever and virtually where ever, the Diverse 3.0 should be at the top of your list.
